Minetest in school?

Hi,

 

We are desperate to get Minecraft in the ICT suite but bored of waiting for purchases to get approved.

 

Seen Minetest whilst sitting at home, seems it has a server and even a portable version.

 

Has anyone tried this out?

 

Forum seems active, last release in July 2017 though but they are working on 0.5.

 

Don’t like students having to have accounts as well for Minecraft, hoping this doesn’t need them.

Yes. Using it fine with a few tweaks to remove online server access.

Cheers, might give it a test.

 

Will be removing the online servers and try to setup a VM server.

Ideally i want it so they cant setup the server without any teacher admins, or me.

We have,

 

Students are loving it.

 

We removed the online servers and have a local server in school. Just a old server i took out the scrap pile.

 

Weve installed a few mods which prevented any arguments.

Whitelist (Stop students creating their own accounts)

Protectors (Protect blocks in the radius and also protect tamed animals)

Animals from TenPlus, animals, monsters, prehistoric.

 

Some clever inventory that gives recipes for craftables (cant remember name and not on at the mo)

 

these are some i can think of.

 

 

 

We tried vehicles but as you cant protet them they caused a few arguments so have removed again.

 

 

Not yet used it as a educational resource, you can get educator mods which allows teacher to setup protected areas , teleport etc.

 

Weve also got the 3d armor, have tweaked the wood chestplate so they dont take damage from other players. Im evil so make them work and mine rather than giving creative mode.

They also keep their items when they die.

 

 

With the help of their forum i created a script to create users from csv.
