I had a bit of a nightmare with my mac and in the end i couldnt get the OS from the app store or anywhere else in the end i use a friends mac to download the os and make a bootable version and got my mac up and running again. What i want to do is stick a copy of my OS in my cloud as not always going be able to go to my friend to save the day. But i need to make the file a .dmg how do i do this so that i only need to put it on the USB and good to go. At the moment i have downloaded the file from app store and its sat in a folder so what do i do next? ive tried using disk utility and making a image from file but when i do that i get an error resource busy error 49168 I would really like it if someone can tell me please how to i know i must be stupid to be asking lol Edited February 19, 2018 by tinkerbotsict
Marci Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Make a bootable USB stick using the installer and Install-Disk-Creator (or whichever tool you prefer). Unmount the USB stick via Disk Utility. Create an image of the USB stick via Disk Utility. Upload the created image.
tinkerbotsict Posted February 19, 2018 Author Posted February 19, 2018 I’ve used install disk creator but when I look at the file I can’t see it as an dmg
Marci Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 You're not looking for a file - you use Install Disk Creator to make a complete working functional bootable USB installer. You then run disk utility, select the USB stick, and head to File > New Image > Image from [devicename]. It will then produce a DMG of the contents of the USB Stick. 1
