chrisjako Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 I have one of these motherboards, unfortunately setting our admin BIOS password on the PC it was installed on slipped under our radar Despite clearing the CMOS JBAT1 whilst powering off for 15 seconds (and also trying 24 hours) the password still does not clear from the BIOS I contacted MSI, this was their response : Thanks for contacting MSI technical support. Regarding your concern, have you forgotten the password? We are sorry that the password cannot be reset. If you cannot remember the password, we suggest you contact the reseller(the place you bought the MB from) for them help check further. Thanks! Thanks for your cooperation in advance! Best Regards, MSI Technical Support Team WTH!! In all my 18 years of working with motherboards its the first time i've come across a mainboard which doesn't allow admin bios password resetting I would change the BIOS chip if the manual would show where its located, another FAIL by MSI Be warned, stay away from this brand
difinity Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 (edited) Agreed, unusual for a desktop motherboard to not be able to clear the password, but the norm with laptops. You don't need a manual to show you were the BIOS chip is located (they are easily identified) I imagine it's soldered not in a socket though. Can you boot from CD/DVD ? there are a few BIOS password wiping utilities you can try. Maybe try removing the battery, how I've always done it if I can't find the jumper. qwerty94 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Helped me a couple of times in the past: https://bios-pw.org/
chrisjako Posted February 9, 2018 Author Posted February 9, 2018 It's a desktop MB, trying to get it to boot setup or bios menu it prompts for the password
Mako Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 I've not personally had much success using jumpers to reset BIOS'. Removing the CMOS battery and disconnecting the power lead for a few minutes has a guaranteed success rate.
