Progresso Register Import

I used to work in a school and my wife still does, she deals with attendance.

 

She users Progresso and get loads of paper registers when the network fails to connect up.

 

Now I thought there has to be away around this. Surely you could export (when the network was up) a .csv file of the class group, and get the Teacher to fill that out and send it over, then simply import the .csv file back in???

 

I can’t honestly believe there is no work around for this system beyond pen and paper.

 

She doesn’t think so. So I decided to hit the EduGeek Network and ask for the answer.

 

Any help would be great.

Sort of. You can import Roll Call data, but not Lesson Attendance data. Importing Roll Call data is in Data | Import Data | Import Tool, set the Area field to "AM PM Attendance". I think your CSV just needs Learner Code, Date, a column saying "AM" or "PM" and the mark. However, I'd be very surprised if the data manager there will let teachers have access to that tool as it's a pretty powerful (read; 'easy to break stuff') bit of the system. With that and the fact you can't do lesson attendance anyway, I suspect it's not much help I'm afraid.

 

The right answer is to get the IT department to fix the connectivity. With a cloud system, some sort of redundancy is a must.

As Dan has pointed out, and I expect you know(!), really it would be better to tackle the connectivity issues. If it we me, I'd be tempted to ask for a mobile phone with data enabled - I'm pretty sure you could use the mobile version of the site (mobile.progresso.net) to take registers over a 3G or 4G network with much less risk/hassle/pain than data imports. Of course I'm assuming you cell network coverage is reasonable?
