Sharepoint on Office 365

Looking into migrating our shared areas onto Office 365 , but i just don't get / understand Sharepoint in the Office 365 environment. We have had Sharepoint as just our intranet for years onsite, never for shared areas.

 

I create sites and can get content on but i am trying to see it from the end users point of view and the experience is not a pleasant one. For example, when i login to Office 365 via a browser and click the Sharepoint button i would expect my users to see a list of all the sites, but they don't, and when i login i don't, i just get frequent sites, recent sites and featured links. Its just a mess. Is there anyway to improve what the users see's once the press that sharepoint button? I ideally want list of all sites with one for each subject.

 

Also when i use the OneDrive app on iOS and click the sites button i don't see a list of sites available i just see frequent and following, not really a great user experience.

 

Am i doing something wrong or is it just that badly designed?

SharePoint app, Sites in OneDrive and the SharePoint tile show you sites you "follow", you'll notice it in the top right in sharepoint sites. the ideas being you only follow the important sites rather than all of them and is a customised site just for you. There are some products and features out that to help with image navigation so you have a landing page that you can then navigate to each of these and some people like to remove the sharepoint tile to save confusion.

A quick fix solution could be making the homepage a landing page with shortcuts to sites?

 

I have a few sub-sites within the one I work with on O365 and I just created a custom tile for the Sharepoint homepage on the app bar and then the homepage has linked images to the different sub-sites.

 

I agree that overall user-friendliness can be burdensome with Sharepoint, but staff and governors seem to navigate the above without complaint

I had been playing with having 1 main site with links to each subsite, but i don't want to set it as a homepage as it requires login, and i don't think you can change the sharepoint button to point to a different URL, and you cannot force tiles on the office 365 home screen , users have to manually add them. Office 365 is one of those most frustrating products i have ever used.
