Unless that system is very quick and able to work from a distance of several metres (highly unlikely) this sounds like something which would take significantly longer than a traditional roll call (assuming you even do a roll call, rather than just count heads then look for who is missing!). Sounds like a technological solution to a non-problem!

 

Also bear in mind there is nothing in this for the students, so why would they bother standing by the scanner and allowing it to do facial recognition to register them? Years back, we had a biometric registration system here where students would put a finger on a scanner as they walked in - identifying whether a student was missing because they were genuinely absent or had just walked past it took longer than a conventional call of names!
