Hi All,

Just wondering if anybody has come across this?

http://www.garfieldcs.com/static/lightbot/light-bot-20.swf

I can run it fine on my admin machine, but for the students it locks up just as it loads (100%).

I've done a little bit of digging and obviously tried to find as much as I can.

I'm wasn't sure how complicated the problem was and whether it stems from some sort of lockdown policy we have on file types (flash/scripts - SRP), whether it is a browser policy (active content etc.) or whether it is because it seems to deposit files in %Appdata% (C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\HXQ5D4S9\http://www.garfieldcs.com\static\lightbot\light-bot-20.swf) which is blocked for a lot of file types....

Some policies are specific to the students so I signed on as admin and the same problem occured. I also took it off the Domain and it still wouldn't run. So I physically took the PC to my office and signed on as the student and it ran the game. EDIT: IT DIDN'T RUN THE GAME ONLY GOT TO THE MENU (WHY DIDN'T I CHECK?!).

This led me to conclude that it might be filtering that is the problem (filtering is done on IP addres).

So in the filtering for the students I added an exception - Garfield Computer Science - But it still won't run the game, so I did a little more digging and came across this post (my bold):

Light Bot 1 can be nabbed and run locally with no (technical) issues. Light Bot 2 needs to be able to talk back to the Armor Games server. If you have a half decent techy team they can pinpoint the exact URL (I did this but no longer have it to hand) and unblock it specifically without opening up the entire site.

Anyway, as I don't have a 'half decent techy team', I thought I would ask here. Does anyone know what I can do to get this to run, without opening up the whole Armour Games website?

Thanks in advance,

Kol.

P.S. It has come from a 'programming' book the students are using, so I really need to get this to run!

I ran a filtering report on the I.P. of the computer.

Checking the report gave me the following:

Lightbot.jpg

So, I unblocked the 'GAMES' catagory in our filter and this allowed the game to run.

I presume I just allow these?

I would, but the I.P. one gives all sorts of warnings when I try to open it. Any safe way of finding out what it is?

Ok, a little bit further...

I allowed the Armor Games cache, but only got to the menu (still couldn't run the game).

Then I allowed the 'Host is an IP' address, but still couldn't run the game!

Interestingly, checking the report it appears the I.P. has changed....

How much trouble will I get in allowing the 'Host is an I.P.' catagory....?

Edit: No that didn't work....

OK....

I have taken it off the domain (to eliminate policy issues) and moved it my office (to eliminate filtering issues).

Reset all IE settings, Flash is working and enabled.

It still isn't working!!!!

I was supposed to go home half an hour ago... :(
