Ardilluminati Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 We would like to play music throughout the school corridors, what sort of licences do we need I believe we have a blanket PRS & PPL licence but would this be enough and does it cover Spotify Business? Regards Ardalan
hardtailstar Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Spotify Business isnt in the UK yet is it?
copson90 Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 No I don't think it is. I think there is a company called Soundtrack for business. 1
Ardilluminati Posted November 28, 2017 Author Posted November 28, 2017 got in touch with them and they advised I should be able to use it and the offered 50% discount but they couldn't advise on the licence part. - - - Updated - - - Soundtrack is Spotify for business 1
foofighterjim Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 PRS and PPL should cover it provided they were provided with the correct information of intended use and applicable licence types have been granted. 1
Alis_Klar Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 The DfE centrally buy PRS and PPL for all State schools in England https://www.gov.uk/guidance/copyright-licences-information-for-schools and this is confirmed on Copyright & Schools: photocopy, scan, screen or broadcast copyright resources in classrooms - simple advice for teachers but then the flowchart wizard on the website suggests DfE only buys PPL and not PRS but you need both?!? Very confusing. 1
Alis_Klar Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 OK. Answred my own question. It is only if you want to use Music outside of assemblies and for non-curriculum reasons that the DfE centrally bought licence (England) does not cover you. Permission to play or perform music is granted under the PRS and PPL Licences Should you wish to use music (CDs, records, MP3 files etc) in schools outside of the curriculum (for example discos/end of term parties, school fetes, telephone music on hold, dance/aerobics classes, background music in offices or dining areas) you are very likely require a licence from PPL and PRS for Music. Both licences are available from CEFM. 1
