HDMI TV Not displaying BIOS\Boot Screens

Strange little problem from the home this one. I have a media center PC running Vista Ultimate 32bit edition and a Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H motherboard with an onboard GeForce 7300 HDMI chipset. This worked fine when displaying boot and BIOS screens. I then fitted a GeForce 8500GT PCIe graphics card with HDMI out.

Now I can't see the boot\BIOS screens and only get to see the screen once Windows loads the drivers (the latest 169.25 release) and then it is fine. I can see the BIOS and boot screens if I connect the optional DVI output to the VGA port (via an adapter). The original on board graphics are disabled in the BIOS and Windows logs no unusual problems during booting.

Anyone have any hints?

I've recently seen a similar problem with a Matrox card.

 

To be honest I don't think there's a way round it, as there's no pre-boot drivers for the card, so the motherboard can't display to it.

 

I'd be interested if anyone did find a way round though

I think it is more of a HDMI problem. I've had 2 previous HDMI cards, and both have worked perfectly. I only got the 8500 as it does Blu-Ray decoding on chip rather than loading it on the CPU, and when I get a drive later in the summer (once the prices have dropped to a decent level) I won't have to worry about the system getting stressed out.

well when I boot my work machine (1 screen dvi the other vga...) the dvi takes longer to come on...

 

could be a case of drivers, connect through something that allows you to see bios and change the default display mebbe??

 

The computer could be too fast for the monitor

The BIOS is set to the new card. The DVI connector displays fine, just the HDMI will only become active once the drivers have loaded. This has never happened with my other HDMI cards.
