Are these just home plugs?

A friend of mine has been having some network issues at home, at the moment currently using home plugs but he has sent me these:

I don't see much between them other than price but I'm guessing the are the same sort of thing, first time I've seen them.

 

I've then found this https://www.screwfix.com/p/british-general-922wr-13a-2g-single-pole-wi-fi-extender-socket-white/7706v, presuming its the same as a normal wifi extender you plug in but again built into the socket?

It does seem to be a powerline solution. I found it being sold in lots of places, but no reviews and no installation instructions

It's the first time I've seen them.

 

Tempted to do a few CAT5 runs and wire everything in, save the hassle!

Yes they do powerline as well, but mainly they're for the wifi extension point. Is it the wifi they're after or the sockets more?

I've used EOP adapters before in a few different houses https://www.amazon.co.uk/Powerline-Configuration-UK-TL-PA4010KIT-V1-20/dp/B01BECPIMC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1509524967&sr=8-1&keywords=powerline

They seem to work better in some places and worse in others, not sure if it is the quality of the house wiring. Also surge protectors can really mess with EoP.

I find its a quick solution for needing to get networked up quickly but I would not recommend them for long term.

 

 

Edit: I'm pretty sure the ones you linked are just the same as the plugs, they reference "powerline Technology" and they have a similar bandwidth limitation (500Mbps)
