so instead of it going to c: documents i would like it to go onto the network drive N: Documents

this is only for home use not for office or anything like this but its good to learn new things

It very much depends on your client computer (the computer from which you're connecting to the server) and how far down the rabbit hole you want to go.

If you're not using a domain or anything like that, then you can make a network share on the server (right click on a file, select share, and follow the on screen instructions - you will need to make sure either the "Everyone" group* or the local user from your client computer has permissions on the share otherwise you won't be able to save to it), then add it as a mapped drive on your desktop. Once it's added as a mapped drive you can pretty much treat it as local storage.

If you're setting up a domain then it's easier (apart from having to set up a whole domain first). You can just go into the user properties, and set their "Network Home drive". When you next log in with that user account the drive will automatically be mapped.

*EDIT: Using the Everyone group is highly insecure, it's better if you can use the local user from your client computer.

Hope this helps.
