Internet Based Q&A?

Hi folks,

 

Our Y7 Head of Year wants to be able to partner up Y7s with incoming Y6s. He wants the Y6s to be able to ask a question, digitally, of their Y7 partner.

 

The only way I can think to do this is via a OneDrive spreadsheet/document, as all the Y7s have OneDrive, they can create a spreadsheet/document, and then share it with their Y6 partner.

 

But it’s a fairly dull way of doing it.

 

Is anyone aware of an alternative method that fits the requirement, is easy-to-use, and just a bit more… exciting?

Does it have to be private 1to1? Have you considered something more forumy with a pretty skin? Then everyone could view the responses as well to a question, and input etc if required?

Yes, the idea is it's a private dialogue between the two students. I think also there might need to be a monitoring element - with OneDrive we could always view the conversation via the student's account, if need be.

Could still do the same concept using SharePoint sites etc (I meant locally hosted forums), but seems a bit of faff doing one per student when you consider it's really just a "page-based" email system.

 

You could even go down the route of something silly like Spiceworks helpdesk (Bare with me ) Setup a new instance, make a pretty template for the ticket auto-replies etc, and then when a Y6 emails into the "Q/A Address" you assign it to a student (effectively as you would with a Tech). They'll get a pretty email going "blahblah has raised a question" and it's assigned to you, then email reply to it and Y6 gets a Pretty reply back etc. Just needs some colourifying for templates etc Once one is assigned as long as they reply to that ticket/questionID it'll link back to that student won't it. And you can just oversee the whole thing via the normal console

Google Groups is pretty much designed for this type of thing in mind, a moderated forum.

Unfortunately we don't use GAfE, so I'm guessing it would mean our 200 or so Y7s creating Google logins.

I think you would need one for the teacher who would setup the group then make it moderated public.

If you really needed user accounts you could sync 200 accounts in a few seconds and have them login using your AD credentials with GADS.

I'm fairly sure Y6s don't have school email accounts, but will check this.
