techy32 Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 We used to use backup exec to backup our Mac server but now moved to Veeam. Veeam and backup exec do not like each other on the same server especially tape autoloader. We are looking to backup Mac server around 1.0 TB data. What is the best on site backup option? Thanks
eddyc Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 We bought a Synology nas drive which can be used for time machine backup. We set this up as a backup target, which was fairly straightforward. Works really well. Restored data of the whole server numerous times without an issue too 1
techy32 Posted September 19, 2017 Author Posted September 19, 2017 Thanks @eddyc. Any particular model?
IrritableTech Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 We do the same with a QNAP NAS. Time machine is bundled into much of the NAS software across the vendors I believe. 1
Arthur Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 Any particular model? I would get one that supports Btrfs... www.synology.com/en-uk/dsm/Btrfs (scroll down to the bottom of the page) www.synology.com/en-uk/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/General/What_was_the_RAID_implementation_for_Btrfs_File_System_on_SynologyNAS 1

eddyc Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Thanks @eddyc. Any particular model? We are using a RS814 Cheers, eddyc
techy32 Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 Our Time machine backup is failing on the new NAS. We have also tried with USB connected hard drive to Mac mini server which failed many times. It is backing up around 150 GB and then Mac server becomes unresponsive... Restarted few times... It seem that we need to update Mac mini server software... Any other solution...
Arthur Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 It seems that we need to update Mac mini server software... Which version of macOS do you have on your Mac mini server? Our Time machine backup is failing on the new NAS. Have you updated the NAS to the latest DSM version?
