cathycolless Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Our teaching staff have recently had their Desktop PC's replaced with an MS Surface Tablets running Win10. We've installed the SIMS Teacher App on these devices. When they walk between classrooms they close the lid on the device and the wifi connection goes away temporarily. The teachers are reporting the app does not cleanly recover after the wifi absence and using the app again requires a lengthy re-authentication process. I am wondering if I should try enabling Offline working on the App. I notice that this is off by default. I would be grateful for any advice on what would be needed to get this mode working and any experiences good or bad. TIA 1

We enabled Offline working which has made it better. The worst part about it is we have 2 factor authentication setup so each time a teacher has to sign into the App they have to do the 2 step authentication again even though they have done it already. Remember for 30 days doesn't work with the teacher app. 1
RichCowell Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 We've had the same as @RLR - we only use it on iPads, and it's been a nuisance with teachers moving to different areas of the school... Again, enabling offline working has helped, but it's still not great... Nothing about the SIMS Teacher App is great IMHO... especially the admin side of it... it's just a complete pain in the backside... 1

Luckily, I passed this over to our SIMS team. It works but it's missing so many features. We've got so many iPads and the list of devices is just growing and growing. We've now started setting people up on iPads with Full SIMS with and RDP session. Works quite well. 1
RichCowell Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Don't get me started on the Admin Portal. Luckily, I passed this over to our SIMS team. It works but it's missing so many features. We've got so many iPads and the list of devices is just growing and growing. It's a joke... Accessing one code through the portal, but having to download ALL the others in a zipped CSV to get them?!? It's such a faff... then needing to generate another code if someone uninstalls and reinstalls the app while trouble-shooting - not a rare occurrence, annoyingly, but has been the only option that's worked on several occasions... it also shows staff in the list that left donkeys years ago, so we have to trawl through a massive list to make changes... It's so very poorly thought-out... We've now started setting people up on iPads with Full SIMS with and RDP session. Works quite well. We've got some doing the same - not quite as nice on a tablet, but it does do the trick...
