Divaldo Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Hi guys, I've just begun working at a school that has an HP 5412zl as their core switch. They are running ProCurve Manager which is able to manage all their other switches but not the core. When I tried to get onto the core to have a look at the config, it prompts for an admin username and password, but nobody here knows what it is. By default, I believe it should be blank, but it's not. If I hold down the pins to reset it, will it also wipe the config off the switch? I have no idea what's set up on there in terms of ACLs and VLANs, so don't want to wipe anything, but I need to get rid of the password somehow. Thanks.
ThomL Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 If you reset via pins it should wipe the device back to factory, or at least that's my understanding. Are you able to connect to the switch with a laptop via the console port? This way you could grab a copy of the current running config, reset the switch, configure a new admin username/password then write the original config back. 1
Divaldo Posted September 12, 2017 Author Posted September 12, 2017 Thanks ThomL sounds like a plan. Shame I can't just reset the password, but that will work. Cheers
keithu Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Shame I can't just reset the password, but that will work. Cheers You can reset the password by pressing the 'Clear' button on the front panel.
ThomL Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 You can reset the password by pressing the 'Clear' button on the front panel. Good idea if the button is still enabled, definitely worth a try before my option. I disable the clear button typically so wasn't my go to
