TechSupp Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Had some intermittent problems with the network going down over the last few weeks but of course it happens when I'm not in that school and can investigate. They have shut the server down and restarted it and all seems well. Now in the school and had a look at the error logs and came across this entry. Can anyone explain it a bit more in plain english and if it would have been connected to the network problems: The name "XAVIER :1d" could not be registered on the Interface with IP address 10.xx.xx.10. The machine with the IP address 10.xx.xx.113 did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine. The PC that has the 113 address allocated to it is the Y6 teachers laptop and the 10 address is the domain server. Thanks
mik_se7 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Im not sure what the exact problem is but it sounds similar to a browser master issue where the server should be the master browser not the client and the XAVIER i have only come across once and that was a virus, so this is a long shot but maybe you have the virus XAVIER and its try to spread for one computer to another, but this is at best a guess i would check the processes running on both that laptop and the server and see if XAVIER is running.
TechSupp Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 Maybe misleading but Xavier is our network domain name. Just another error message but any ideas on this one, its listed as MrxSmb with this message. Again plain english as looked at MS and no clearer! The redirector failed to determine the connection type. Event Id: 3019
Scruff Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Here is an MS article on the original error posted: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822659 what is the NetBIOS name of the laptop ? Scruff
