sydborn Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Hi I created a new domain (server 2016) I migrated my users to the new domain and now users can't log onto outlook on their machine(start/outlook) it keeps failing to set outlook each time but they are able to logon to the online version
sydborn Posted August 24, 2017 Author Posted August 24, 2017 Updates: I have tried creating the outlook at home for a member of staff and it work. I am thinking it has to do with my DNS in the school. So Please any ideas of what I can do to my DNS to allow outlook work? Thanks

cpjitservices Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 ok have you got an A / CNAME record for your domain pointing to your domain for autodiscover? Basically, you're getting a 404 not found for your Autodiscover
sydborn Posted August 24, 2017 Author Posted August 24, 2017 No, Please show me an example on how to do that. Thanks ok have you got an A / CNAME record for your domain pointing to your domain for autodiscover? Basically, you're getting a 404 not found for your Autodiscover
cpjitservices Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 for example: if your domain is .... brantinghamhighschool.sch.uk you would need to log on to control panel for that domain and add an A record or CNAME to point to autodiscover.brantinghamhighschoolsch.uk
sydborn Posted August 24, 2017 Author Posted August 24, 2017 Thanks I have this in my office 365 on the domain tab -CNAME - autodiscover autodiscover.outlook.com 1 Hour DO I need to do this in the DNS? for example: if your domain is .... brantinghamhighschool.sch.uk you would need to log on to control panel for that domain and add an A record or CNAME to point to autodiscover.brantinghamhighschoolsch.uk
cpjitservices Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 Thanks I have this in my office 365 on the domain tab -CNAME - autodiscover autodiscover.outlook.com 1 Hour DO I need to do this in the DNS? Oh your on O365 for email ? If thats the case you shouldnt need to do anything as far as I'm aware ? 1
cpjitservices Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 (edited) Have you tried creating a new profile? I would also add autodsicover.outlook.com to the host's file on a machine as a test, IP is 40.101.12.8 To test. Edited August 24, 2017 by cpjitservices
Domino Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 if you can't ping autodiscover.{youremaildomain} internally then you will need to add a cname for that to autodiscover.outlook.com 1
cpjitservices Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 as Above. Was going to suggest that if adding to the host's file worked.
sydborn Posted August 24, 2017 Author Posted August 24, 2017 I can ping autodiscover and I get a response. if you can't ping autodiscover.{youremaildomain} internally then you will need to add a cname for that to autodiscover.outlook.com
Domino Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 If you run an nslookup to it, is it an internal server replying, or a non-authoritative answer? Does it resolve to autodiscover.outlook.com?
cpjitservices Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 (edited) Hmmmm strange it should be working.... There isn't some sort of security software on the machines blocking Outlook from working properly? Edited August 24, 2017 by cpjitservices
timbo343 Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 What filtering device are you using? Could it be something is blocking this on your filter? It's strange how you can ping and get a reply. Have you got modern authentication enabled on Exchnage online? Have you allowed the list of IPs through your filter? I had an issue with autodiscover and the certificate, turned out to be the IPs for exchange online had to be bypassed for https inspection.
