I know VEEAM is used primarily for D2D backups of virtual machines, but does anyone use it for "application aware" backups as well?

I notice in the configuration of the backup job you can tick application aware, which I assume means it can put the application running on the virtual machine into a state suitable to backup (using the VSS writer).

Does anyone use this to backup SQL Server DB? In which case, is there any need to backup the DB separately to the VM (e.g. by running a local SQL backup setup in Management Studio or using traditional backup software)?

Kind Regards,

Bruce.
