some programs not saving

I thought I posted part of this a few days ago, but can't find it.. its an age thing!!!

 

particular challenge with an infant school - they want their pupils to individually login with very very simple names (eg z1 for child one in zebra class) but save their work to a folder in their class folder called 'jack smith' for example.

I've got this working - to a degree..

with dsadd I've got the scripts ready to add the users with the correct short name and then map the u drive to \\server\shares\class\realname. then in GPO I'm picking up U as the folder redirection.

to test I've taken restrictions off the pupil and I can see that in windows 7 I can browse to u:\ read and write to it and then from word and from paint (as examples) work is saving fine.

Now, trying some of the other programs - eg 2simple 2createastory - the save page shows U: in the corner, but I get message saying can't save here.

 

I found this on 2simple forum - but will I have to do this for every login on every PC?? Any ideas for a way to streamline it?

I did the 'standard dialogue box' approach

 

(1) Most common cause: If you’re using simple save and open dialog boxes (this is the default setting),then the error is caused by the program’s inability to create a temporary file in the program folderduring saving. To rectify this, either give pupils full permissions to the program folder, ie C:\ProgramFiles\2Simple Software\2Create A Story, or change to “standard dialog boxes” for opening andsaving. To do this, open the Teacher Options (press ctrl + shift + the letter “o”), go to the General taband click the button with the 3 dots on the bottom right. Now select Standard Dialog Boxes on thebottom left and click OK and OK again.

We had a similar issue.

 

Ended up setting full access to Users on the Windows\Temp folder that resolved it.

Thanks for that idea - I might need to do it ..

i've lso discovered that every element of 2simple music toolkit has a seperate setting.

 

It's a real challenge, the software was produced and shipped out in the days of 1 pc per class if you're lucky, take it in turns to sit there. over the years the teachers have built up experience / comfort with these packages and can use them very well, but the packages just don't do the anywhere/anytime learning

Okay - I haven't cracked the issue with the 2simple stuff yet, but Revelation NAtural Art was a disaster ..

 

Seem to have gamed a fix for that though .. 9fingers crossed)

 

partition the drive on the PC - they've all got shedloads of space.

Copy the installer there.

Make a folder in the d drive called something like 'programmes'

make a folder in that called rna

On the setup file for natural art right click run as administrator

install it to the programmes\rna

 

Now first time you use it, don't use the shortcut you created but instead navigate to the NaturalArt exe file in the installed folder.

Right click - run as administrator - let it roll through.

Next time you run it as a user on that PC you'll find all the relevant files set up in your home folder (see above notes).

Why do i think I'll be back on this thread later today saying 'oh, except that it doesn't work if your name has more than 32 characters'
