Google chrome Oops... a server error occurred and your email was not sent. (#76997)

Odd one. Just migrated school from zimbra to gmail. All went ok. As users start to use chrome, windows machines seemingly randomly get a message Oops... a server error occurred and your email was not sent. (#76997).

 

Only happens while working on webmail (gmail).

 

Can predict when it's going to happen because it says save failed on the bottom right side of the draft message pain.

 

If it's a message which is going to fail before I press send I can upload an attachment and just as it finishes uploading it will give the same error - Oops... a server error occurred and your email was not sent. (#76997).

 

Without an attachment it will error when o press send if it's "one of those messages".

 

Usually happens if replying to an email.

More common when there are multiple people on the reply all to field.

 

Clearing the cache and restarting browser sometimes works.

 

I have light speed dycrypting ssl traffic for google.

We have sonicwall ips. Cisco firewall.

Sophos.

Windows 10.

Latest version of chrome - although it happens in other browsers too.

 

Has anyone else had this or maybe fixed this?

 

I was going to make a gpo to clear cache and hope that cleans people's cache out.

 

Any thoughts?

Are you doing any sort of SSL inspection, I don't recall the error code but had issues reported when the filter was inspecting google mail. I had to turn that bit off.

It is being inspected by light speed and checked.

 

I wonder if an initial move might be to add mail.google.com to exclude ssl.

IIRC Google are quite fussy about SSL inspection/interception of their traffic. Probably rightly so in my opinion. I'd see if there were any other URLs besides mail.google.com that got used for gapps email and exclude the lot.
