USB C Dock with 2 HDMI ports?

Hello,

 

I have just purchased a new MacBook Pro. I am looking for a USB C dock that has 2 HDMI ports so I can connect 2 monitors at my desk. The ones I have seen only seem to have one.

 

Can anyone recommend one please?

I've tried Dell's USB3 one... perhaps you could get a dock and use a USB C to 3 adapter? Not ideal by any means

What resolution are your monitors?

 

Since the 13" MBP has 2 x TB3 ports and the 13" MBP w/ TouchBar has 4 x TB3 ports could you simply buy 2 x TB3 to HDMI cables and connect one to each port?

They are just 1080P

 

I have a 13" MBP with 4 USB C ports (though bar version). But I will have 5 connections. 2 monitors, a keyboard, mouse and power. So I thought I would get a dock so I don't have to faff about and so I have enough connections.

I have a DisplayLink USB dock at work, a Dell branded one with two HDMI ports and a full sized DisplayPort port. It can drive a 4K display from the DisplayPort and 1080p from the other two. It cost about £100 from Dell I think. Along with a USB C to B cable, it should suit your needs.

One thing though, it works on OS X but you have to disable transparency in accessibility options otherwise it all looks a bit pants. The Mac drivers are improving but it works better in Windows. I'm running this dock on a Retina MacBook mostly running Windows 10

Have you seen the following Thunderbolt 3 USB-C hub? It's a little bit cheaper than the dock I linked to at £109.90.

IMO since you have the latest MacBook Pro it's a no brainer to get a TB3 hub or dock rather than USB 3.0. It's less hassle and more futureproof in the sense that you could swap your 1080p monitor for 2 x 4K monitors and you wouldn't have to replace the hub/dock.

 

By the way I noticed in the small print that the cables I linked to aren't compatible with your 2017 MBP. You will need this USB-C to HDMI cable instead...

Unlikely. The USB-C port isn't listed as supporting DisplayPort so therefore no HDMI. This means you would only be able to connect one monitor.

 

On Aukey's own website it also mentions that the USB-C port can't be used to charge your MacBook.

Just noticed the TS3 dock won't charge the laptop at the same time! I may consider a single port HDMI Dock that supports charging.
