Website Code Help?

This might be somewhat of a cheeky ask, but I'm currently in the process of having our website redesigned and I would like to have some slow horizontally moving images on our front page, much like the National Trust website: http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk

 

However the company behind our website redevelopment, who specialises in creating websites solely for primary and secondary schools, is not entirely sure what code is required to do this. Has anyone created similar in the past? If so, would you mind providing us with the code to enable this effect? Happy to add a favourable salutation to our front page for any help, providing the code works!

You've engaged the services of a company to redesign your website, and they're having to ask you how to do something?

 

On a more helpful note, I'm going to go on a limb and presume you're using WordPress or another similar Content Management System.

Something like Lightweight jQuery Carousel With Image Panning Effect - Visual Pan | Free jQuery Plugins modified to scroll slightly to the right over the duration of the image displayed, rather than on mouse move, would be my starting point. You may also need to add JQuery for automatically transitioning to the next image in there.

NationalTrust (well, Digitas LBI, who developed the site for them) specifically use slick - the last carousel you'll ever need (a quick right-click > view source revealed that simple nugget of info).

 

For alternatives, just google 'Ken Burns jQuery' (Ken Burns popularised with the whole pan/zoom concept using stock archive photos in his video documentary work, so the technique is generally named after him).

 

And if the company designing your site couldn't work that one out for themselves, I'd seriously be shopping elsewhere.
