I have Google Safesarch enforced by DNS settings but this seems to be very restrictive mean staff don't get relevant search results is anyone else finding this?

Please give some examples (there will be some of course...). I thought it worked pretty well - and although we had some complaints when it was first enforced - a careful look at what it was excluding - I seem to remember a Biology teacher complaining of lots of missing links - they were actually promoting alcohol and drugs and of very dubious class room use.

Its not very helpful to have lots of links come up through a google search only to find that the web filter stops you going there....

You need to setup GSuite for Education (Google Apps) Accounts for your staff and you can then allow them to override safesearch when necessary when logged in. I do this at my primary school and it works well.

I find that staff (secondary rather than primary) are very confused when they can search and find material that students can't...or indeed get to web pages that students get blocked. So if we allow anything extra for staff its always with a "soft block" so they realise that students probably can't get to it.

I have tried this override but it did not work for YouTube? Does it have to be an AD synced account?

Have you setup the app settings for Youtube in GSuite to allow staff accounts unrestricted access to Youtube ? No its doesn't need to be AD synced.

Does this need to be a group that the settings are applied to then the account a member?

Yes I think that sounds right (while since I set this up). You need to setup your organisational structure (groups) then you can apply app policies to each group. Safesearch can then be overridden.

Word of caution - don't use a single account for all staff as this breaks the ability to override. Each member of staff requires an individual account. Single account may work for a while but will eventually break.

I have changed the settings but this is still not working for Youtube. I am also still waiting for Google to finalized my domain. Also I can't see any setting for Google search under any apps.
