Dear all,

I'm trying, for the first time, to set up a reporting sessions (student reports). I have been using the session manager and have got as far a allocating groups to the report. When i access my list entry as a teacher, there is nothing there.

I ahve been trying for about a week to find help guides/technical information from CAPITA to help but can find nothing.

Can any help me to start from scratch and set up a session of student profiles?

I have used SIMS for reports before as a teacher but I've been promoted to overseeing data and reports and now im stuck.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Profiles is a complex beast and needs to be built up in a secific way.

You start with your comment bank, you create a comment bank for your reporting session (we do ours by year group as that's how we report) and then within that comment bank you need a Comment Bank section for each subject. You link that section to a course by right clicking on it. Each comment bank section then needs the area that you want to comment on and we were told atleast a heading comment and a blank join comment.

Once your comment bank is created, you move on to designing your session, from here you select your comment bank that you are going to use, this should populate the box on the left hand side think it's courses, but going from memory) which should match up with what you linked in your comment bank. When you click on each of these courses on the right hand side the groups should appear that you want to report on. If they don't then click on the little magnifying glass to the right and then you should be able to select the groups that you want to report on.

You also need to pick your template and this is driven again by the comment bank and requires inserting of the comment sections from the comment bank into your template, so if you create a new commentbank then you will need to rebuild your template.

Once you are sure that your comment bank is right, you can switch the session from Design to Active and make sure it is unlocked and then teachers will be able to input comments, but be careful as once it is active youo can't go back.

Really you need the Managing Pupil/Student Profiles handbook that can be found on Capita SIMS My Account or by clicking on the Documentation link on your SIMS homepage.

My advice is to do a dry run. Once the session is started its locked down and major changes can't be made. Create one - and have a play yourself at putting stuff in for all the year groups/subjects. If your happy close it down and do a real one with the staff.

Thanks for replies.

Another question. I want to use the profile system to collect targets set for looked after pupils. Can I set the profiles for only certain groups of pupils?

Thanks

I can't remember without looking at it, however my initial instinct would be to say that using Assessment Manager and producing an individual report using that would be a better way of doing it.

Thanks for the reply, would that enable to enter a SMART target for the each Looked After pupil in their classes and we could then collate them?

Well you could use a comment aspect for the imputting of a target which would solve that part, in terms of doing it for a looked after child in each class for a member of staff to enter from a marksheet I'm not sure if you could create a filter specific enough for the class teacher just to go to the marksheet to do it. You could do it and tell them to filter the marksheet for look after only and those are the only ones they need to enter a comment for?

You can have comments (from the bank) that are automatically triggered by a grade that’s entered into basement manager. If you collect the grades or have already collected them, these can be linked across to automatically produce some of the written report. Targets are best collected in assessment manager. Very easy to create a group for all CLA across the school.

@Banjo I love the concept of a basement manager in SIMS :)

You can just apply a Group Filter to your marksheet template to filter the students for LAC (though it's not a default one available... so you'll have to create a discover group or a user defined group :( )

Is this one target per subject?
