Redirect My Pictures

Is there a quick and easy way of redirecting everyones My Pictures folder to a different location (on the server). I already redirect the My Docs folder my GPO, but would like everyones pictures in one place.

Its to a good idea to redirect everyones my picture to the same folder as they would not have any private my pictures. What might be a better solution is to create a share for school pictures on a server and put all your pictures in there that you wish to share. Set the permissions that students have read only, staff have read write and you have full as administrator. Then share the folder will full control to authorized users. Create a shortcut to the share and put it on the desktop of everyone.

 

Just an idea.

Its not a bad idea, but i'm tring to cut down duplicate photos taking up space, so am trying for a one location for everything. if I did a shared area teachers would just copy the pictures over.

A slight side issue to this topic.

I have a common shared folder for pictures, but have a problem when staff load their own pictures here.

The cameras automatically name the pictures (eg. SANY0001, SANY0002, etc.)

We have several cameras using the same naming system.

Also some have been set to keep incrementing on every photo, but some reset back to 1 every time they're wiped.

Net result - new photos erase old ones with the same name(from another camera or from an earlier use of the same camera.)

 

I encourage people to put their pictures into a sub folder (perhaps defeating your objective of avoiding duplicates?) and to rename any pictures they want to keep. But we continue to lose a few from time to time.

 

Of course, some people who keep their pictures in their own directories also suffer the same problem, but they erase only their own pictures! (And they're used to it, because they tend to give many of their Word documents the same names too!!)
