Windows 10 All Apps list missing apps

Hi All

 

We are only just starting to roll out windows 10 from windows 7 and skipped 8/8.1 altogether I am having a problem with windows 10 (1703) and the start menu, not all the programs installed on the machine are showing up in the All Apps section and I cannot seem to get them to appear for our users yet admins can see all the apps.

 

Background: We are running Windows Server 2008 R2 network (we are working on replacing our 2 2008 R2 domain controllers with 2016 any information that might help with this would be very helpful), we have roaming profiles disabled (for teaching staff and pupils but not admin staff) and need to be able to fully control what is in the All Apps list I have managed to get the start menu tiles to show what we want to show via an XML file but I am having real trouble with the All Apps list

 

The apps we want do appear in %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs but the pupils and staff are not getting them only administrators get them this could be down to a group policy but I don’t know where to look as I am fairly new to editing group policy any ideas?

 

Also is there a way of disabling the store apps for certain users without uninstalling them, there are store apps that I would like staff to be able to use but not pupils.

 

Has anybody got any ideas I have tried searching and there are a few posts that might help I am wading thought these now but I am hoping someone can point me more directly towards an answer, however most some to be fixing it with roaming profiles.

Hi John, I'm doing the same thing and missing out 8/8.1 altogether, i'm a little further ahead of you and just ironing out yet more bugs in the 1703 version of windows 10, but it sounds like you are having one of the same issues i had a while back.

 

First thing i would do before even attempting to configure Windows 10, is get your domain up to at least 2012R2 level and import the .admx files for windows 10 1703.

If you're using the start menu .xml file then i'm guessing you have a version of Windows 10 admx files imported already?, there are a few useful updates in the 1703 .admx file, especially for Edge browser, so well worth installing anyway if you haven't.

To solve your issue of missing applications, change the GPO setting "Allow deployment operations in special profiles" to Enabled. Located in Computer Configuration/administrative Templates/Windows Components/App Package Deployment.

Hi thanks for the info will try that when I get a moment. We do have some windows 10 admx files installed but they are from quite a while ago so will get the new ones and install them and see if that helps any.
