No, It's then they are typing an e-mail and want to insert an emoji. It seems to be happening to all our windows 7 users. If you log into a device with Windows 10 its in colour.

We just have one user who says that last week their Windows 7 device used to have the colour emojis but I am sure it's a Windows 10 thing. Anyone else fancy checking for us?

afaik, windows 7 has mono emoji only, it's a system font being used, not images, so an email sent from 7 to 10 users will result in colour when read and vice versa.

This is affecting us too, just had a call from someone complaining that in the last week their emoji have switched from colour to black and white, and it's apparently affecting other staff too.

They are all on Win7. Mine are still colour on Win 10.

We've a ticket logged with MS. We've seen users with Windows 7 with colour icons. They say its a known bug at the moment but no ETA

Using a Windows 7 machine for the first time I ages and just noticed it.

Just found a good possible explanation on a MS forum: MS have switched the mail site to use unicode emoji instead of the old ones, which were generated from small images.

Win 7 can only render emoji in B&W. Looking closer, the emoji on my Windows 10 PC are in colour but have changed to more standard looking ones, smaller, not as polished.

Microsoft surprised many last week by including an overhaul of all emojis in the preview release of the Windows 10 "Anniversary Update".

 

Segoe UI Emoji is the name of the colour emoji font on Windows. It's part of the same family as Segoe UI Symbol which provides black and white glyphs.
