Hi,The situation is that each pupil has a very personalised timetable - has anyone got a similar set up on SIMs, the issues that I have identified are;

a) pupils can start their lessons at different times so there is no core timetable (its more of an appointments scenario)

b) Lessons can range from 45 mins to 2 hours

c) it changes for pupils and hence staff need to know what they are teaching.

As you may guess we aren't working with large groups and one solution would be split the day into small slices and teach across (but how would this effect the 'register') or to have standard sessions and maintain a 'real' outlook type calendar and the template in SIMS (double entry!!)

We need to capture lessons as and when they happen- SIMs is the LEA hosted solution. Currently staff text in the lesson and this is stored in a database (this has the issue that it is reliant on staff texted the right name and then we have to run a report to manually update SIMS).

Any ideas? Thanks

It sounds similar to TTs for PRU's where pupils could move groups every week. You will need to create all the possible scenarios within Nova and then allocate the pupils to the right groups. The allocation of pupils if they move groups tends to be the admin nightmare and keeping track of this.

Hi,

yes thats about right - are there any PRUs or others that have done this, happy to contact via email.

Surely it could be done without Nova - just create the framework for the timetable.

thanks

Yes, it can, I've done them in the past for PRU's so that external providers could logon and mark the student’s attendance. From memory we split the day into 30min slots and then timetabled all the 'teaching events' against each slot every day for the week. We then had to create a TG for each slot and the student’s timetable was purely dependent upon which teaching groups they were dropped in at the start of each week. A complete pain in the bum to set up and administer, especially half way through the term new providers needed to be added and TT. If you don't need to record lesson attendance then stay away from Nova.
