File searching asking for password/ On Admin and have full permissions.

Having a issue at the minute when im on the server as admin and when im searching for files it keeps prompting me to enter my password.

 

Ive replaced the folder permissions and told it to replace the permission of everything below but its still asking.

 

Not sure if its related but one staff member every so often gets locked out of one of the shares.

 

Any ideas?

 

 

Edit. Its asking for a password to connect to the file server. Im searching a local drive and not going through the \\server\share name.

Ive not created anything like that.

 

Just deleted all the .lnk files in the folder and tried again but getting the same thing.

 

Server is only a few weeks old.

Are you actually being prompted for a password or just the being presented was the UAC continue box? Which OS is the server running? I assume this is just with shared folders?

The folder im trying to search isnt shared.

Its just a folder with lots of stuff in.

 

Other folders do the same though.

 

I do get results, not sure if i get everything though.

Do the credentials of the logged on user work? Or do you have to specify alternative credentials

youve said your user has permissions are they explicit (so admin1) or implicit (group domain admins) ive found uac can be a bit of a pita on servers and ive needed to add my account direct not as part of a group before

Typing in the domain administrator password which im logged in as. It says

"the specified password is not correct"

 

Typing a account that should have permission doesnt bring the login box back again for that search.

 

Have added the admin account direct into the security.

have you tried turning off uac (and if so how ive seen turning it off by gpo rather than manually do some odd things)

Seems weird that its saying the domain administrator passwords isnt correct though.

May have been a dohnut when reading.

 

Old and new files are very similar, its asking for the credentials of the old admin account for the old domain which is still turned on. Somehow it knows the old DCs IP address.

 

What sort of files would cause it to try and go back to the old server?
