MMC error on Event Viewer and Task Scheduler

Hi All,

 

Started getting an error message while opening the Computer Management MMC snap-in recently.

 

 

 

I have done an awful lot of Googling and found it to be quite a common error, seems it is trying to load Event Viewer and failing.

 

One thing that appears to be related is the fact that Task Scheduler also fails to load (on a side note I have also found Powershell quits as soon as it starts too - not sure that's related though).

 

I have never used Computer Management to get to Event Viewer or Task Scheduler, so hadn't realised and haven't used any of them for quite some time, so I'm not sure when the error started...

 

I have tried pretty much everything found on Google, from renaming Machine.Config files in the .net framework folders, to removing reg entries relating to the CLSID named in the error, to unistalling .Net down to ver 2 (which I can't seem to find a way to get rid of), even .net uninstallers and .net cleaners and .net fixers, checkSUR, SFC and chkdsk (long shot)...

 

Problem is, this old beast has been installed since 2011 and has so many weird and wonderful programs, regedits, fixes and workarounds that I can't tell what broke it. It also has some funky disc configurations with dynamic discs for the data and the OS on Raid 0 (yes, I know), so I'm not sure I want to go down the repair/install route just yet as it's my go to PC that has all my quick fix, diagnostic, recovery and network programs on and that would take time I don't have at the moment to get it all back.

 

Anyone got any other ideas (I know the Microsoft fix is Win 10, but it won't run on this old PC)?
