fiza Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 When we try to insert a hyperlink in an excel spreadsheet by right clicking a cell and selecting 'hyperlink' the resultant dialogue box freezes for approx 30 secs. We get a "not responding" message if we try to click anywhere. After 30 secs the box comes back to life and we can browse and insert a hyperlink. If we keep the spreadsheet open then further hyperlinks are easily inserted. Close it and open again repeats the freezing process. Our theory is that the 30 secs are spent enumerating the network devices. Is there any way to stop it looking for network devices and only present local and mapped drives?
fiza Posted April 21, 2017 Author Posted April 21, 2017 Can anyone confirm if this freezing happens to them?
RJohnson91 Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Not for me, I'm afraid, Hyperlink box to browse and insert appears instantly. Is this just for your machine or other machines ? Ryan 1

Ryan We have tried on several different machines. Seems hit and miss. freezes on some and not on others when machines are same spec.
mavhc Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Is Excel trying to open/check the link when you insert it, and because of a proxy or similar, failing, and therefore taking ages to time out?

No it doesnt get that far. This is literally when you right click on a cell and select 'hyperlink'. The Insert Hyperlink dialogue box appears but when you try to browse 'look in' thats when it freezes for between 10 & 30 seconds. After that it works as it should and next time you right click to insert hyperlink it works without delay.
