talksr Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Hi, We have a 200mbps fibre line provided by Virgin. Recently the line was chewed underground by hungry rats. It was re-instated by Virgin by way of splicing the cable. Would this have any effect on our line speed? We can upgrade to a max of 500mbps. I can't say I performed many speed tests prior to the damage caused by the rats as it always seemed more than sufficient.
FN-GM Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Whilst my OCD wouldn't like it, you will be fine. The cable will be spliced a few times, for example the connectors in your server room that you connect the patch cable in will be spliced. 1

Tefters Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 We have had a few satellite switch uplinks munched a few times by rats and squirrels, had them all spliced fine with no issue. It sounds worse then it really is.
