3enjammin Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Hello, I have recently got 3 schools on a multi tenant hosted smoothwall. The DC's for each school had the same domain name. (didn't realise / wasn't advised this could be an issue for policy based filtering - this is my first ever move away from LA provision) So I have renamed 2 of the servers using rendom (/list, edit xml, /upload, /prepare and /execute) then gpfixup (/newdns and /newnb) both after creating new DNS primary zone for the new domain, and rejoined all the machines on the 2 sites over easter. it seems ok. Although - Smoothwall engineer is complaining of a nslookup of new domain resolving to 2 sites (it resolves to the domain I didn't change as well as the new one) For what it is worth - both my dns & ad on the new domains still have reference to the old domain name in the root of the manager tree I am guessing there is something dns that I have yet to change. I am running win2k12r2 Does anyone better versed in DNS / domain rename have anything they can throw me please? Until I get it sorted I can't filter using security groups only by means of an inline proxy. Thanks
deano Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 You could of left the names the same and setup tenants. Then assign the relevant DC to the tenancy range
3enjammin Posted April 14, 2017 Author Posted April 14, 2017 thanks for reply. when you say tenancy range do you mean IP? smoothwall engineer was pretty adamant that i had to do this otherwise they couldn't distinguish between the 3 sites
3enjammin Posted April 18, 2017 Author Posted April 18, 2017 recon it is because the tut i followed didn't include renaming the DC itself. Now looking at doing this retrospectively.
