So..... I 'accidentally' downloaded the demo of Minecraft, for 'research' and because 'reasons'... :spy:

Having run around for a bit and died a few times, I 'accidentally' bought the full version.

Despite being a WoW gamer, I'm a bit of a chicken in MC and am playing on 'Peaceful' mode for the time being. I've dug myself a little bunker in my starting zone of 'Savannah' and dug myself a giant staircase to the 'core' of the world where I'm basically mining the Redstone and stuff from. I DO need to find some cave spiders for some string, but I'll worry about that another time.

I've found Llamas/Alpacas, Horses and all sorts. I went on an explore the other night and climbed over some mountains into Mushroom zone and the edge of Jungle zone, but then I spent over an hour trying to find my way back to my bunker.

So, can more seasoned MC players help me out:

- How can I transport myself around the map

- How do I install Xaero's minimap mod - I can't get it to work and I REALLY need a blimmin' map!

- I've not come across any diamond yet - does this only drop from mobs or in a special place?

- I'm less interested in creating palaces than I am in exploring right now. What would you guys recommend I do

- Are there any really useful mods for making the crafting and action bar situation less.... tedious?

- How do I 'collect' animals to take back to my little farm outside the bunker?

Basically, can you point a newbie sister in the direction of fun things to do in Single Player mode because if I had to ask my 11yo Nephew I might die of embarrassment...

Hi @AMLinington welcome to MC.

Plain minecraft is tedious, get a mod pack from the curse launcher.

Mods will give you a map which you can set way points to find your way home.

Mods also allow for item auto crafting, storage and many more.

I think teleporting is only available in creative or with mods.

You can move animals with a lasso, but I think that's a mod too.

I recommend joining the edu minecraft server.

Not many play on it now, so we are looking to setup a new server.

Have a browse of the mod packs here.

Once you decide on a mod pack, or join the server I can point you to the specific mods that will meet your needs.

I downloaded a couple of mods last night but I can't get them to work - I assumed they'd be similar to WoW in that you download via Twitch (the new Curse launcher) and then start the game and you're away. But it doesn't seem to work that way. I installed the Forge thing and if I click 'Play' on the forge icon, I get a new instance with no saved worlds, so all my progress in digging my bunker is gone. It's slightly frustrating.

Usually installing a mod is just dropping the jar in the mods folder with all its dependencies. For some mods its simple, others you may have conflicts with what version of forge is needed.

The new launcher puts everything into profiles. If you didn't delete the non modded profile you can copy over the saves folder.

The easiest way to get started with mods is with a pack. There are a few light packs out there that give you a map, nei/jei waila and a few others, but keep game play about the same.
