AC2. Cannot install profiles on an unsupervised iPad...but blueprint forces an erase?

Hi guys,

 

I'm so sorry if this has already been answered, I have read lots of posts on edugeek but haven't found an answer to this yet. I have spent hours trying to fix it.

 

Here is my process (please correct me if I am going wrong):

1. Set up master iPad which is supervised and contains all the apps I want the pupils to use, arranged in neat folders.

2. Add a configuration profile.

3. Backup this device.

4. Add the backup to my blueprint (also containing the same apps and configuration profile) so that it will restore from this backup.

5. Apply this blueprint to my iPad class set.

 

Simple...or not...

 

When applying the blueprint to my class set, I get an error message towards the end of the process to say that AC2 cannot apply a configuration profile to an unsupervised device...

 

...fair enough. So I start the process again and supervise all my iPads from the class set. But when I apply the blueprint it says the first thing I must do is erase all of the iPads...so they're not supervised again! The process once again fails with the same error.

 

Arragh!!!

 

I can't see an option on the blueprint to stop it forcing an erase every time it is applied. Some have suggested you can remove the option but it not showing in the backup settings on the blueprint as far as I can see. It only shows that it is going to use a backup file (nothing about a forced erase).

 

My master iPad is perfect, supervised and has the configuration profile installed so I don't know where I am going wrong.

 

I would have thought that a backup of a supervised device applied to an unsupervised device would make it supervised but I guess this isn't the case??

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Managed to solve it after some future research.

 

I had to use two blueprints instead applied one after another.

 

Method:

1) Setup a supervised master iPad with all apps organised in folders but without installing a configuration profile.

2) Take a backup of this iPad and apply it to a blueprint (to restore from backup) containing all of the apps required. Do not apply a configuration profile to this blueprint. Now apply to all iPads.

3) Create a second blueprint containing your configuration profile and wallpapers. Apply this to all iPads. The system will say you need to first supervise the iPads. This is ok to do as the apps from the previous step are not lost. Supervising does not reset to factory defaults.
