Any Progresso Primary Schools out there?

Calling any Primary schools using Progresso...

 

We've just moved over and I'm getting to grips with reporting in SSRS and would love to know how different schools manage the workload/flow and any examples of how you've replicated sims or cmis reports in progresso would be useful to.

Yes, we are Primary (in fact secondary too as an all through school). Personally I've not used SIMS or CMIS but many of the staff have. As you might expect, many staff pine for the system they were used too! In terms of work load, I'm supposed to be 0.5 time, but probably do nearer 1.5 supporting primary and secondary! That's only possible of course because you just need a browser and internet connection. I once unlocked a user whilst I was on a ferry coming back from the Isle of Wight on my tethering my mobile phone to a laptop!

 

There are many predefined reports in progresso and half the battle is finding the right one. They are probably more advanced with secondary reporting. I guess for simple and intermediate reports, I often use advanced filters to export a Excel or Google sheets and further filter from there. For more advanced SRSS reports, I've mostly taken something that already exists and adapted it. I would recommend doing the Advanced SRSS courses 1 and 2 as a minimum.

 

One of the most effective self-sufficient things to develop for leadership/key staff is will defined Home page dashboard. For secondary, the head for example has half a dozen tabs with tailored widgets to be able to see at a glance all the key details - e.g. low attendance pupils, lates, behaviour monitoring, timetables, staff cover and more. We've a bit of catching up to do for primary - the functionality is there - it just a fair bit of work planning and putting together.

 

Are there specific reports that you are trying to replicate from SIMS/CMIS? I'm happy to see if I can point you in the right direction if I can - feel free to PM an example or two.

Thanks, a lot of it is just getting used to SSRS and the complexities of the fields and data sets. I think you are right about the reports the secondary schools in our trust seem to have a better footing for reports and the primaries have a few useful reports but a lot is being done as we go along. I've Sorted our FSM, SEN and Attendance reports just need to get the specifics like Mailing list for eldest child and some other useful reports created from sims.net Edited March 28, 2017 by crocco_john
