Windows 10 redirected start menu strange issue

We use group policy to redirect desktop and start menus for our machines. This works perfectly in Windows 7. However if the policy is applied to a W10 LTSB machine we can only click on items in the start menu if they start with the letter S

All desktop icons are working OK

It's only items in the Start Menu, if they don't start with S, we cannot select or click on them.

I did a test using the Microsoft Office 2016 Folder. As soon as it is renamed to SMicrosoft Office 2016, I can access it and all the contents. Rename it back to Microsoft Office 2016 and I can no longer access it. It's the same with any renamed item e.g "Outlook" doesn't work, "sOutlook" works.

From what I can make out this seems to be related to the user profile. (We are using roaming profiles)

If I logout of the machine and then delete my roaming profile folder from the server (i.e. username.v6). When I login to the PC again, the Start Menu works perfectly. After which I logout.

The problems reoccurs on the second login and all logins after this.

Still no idea why this is happening though.

SOLUTION FOUND

I made the mistake of assuming that the PC I had been given for testing had all the Windows Updates applied. It turns out I was wrong.....

Applying KB4013429 has resolved the issue.
