Google drive sync network share

I'm sure there's a very good reason not to do this, but.....

 

Google Drive sync doesn't work properly on a server and isn't intended to. Our file server is virtualized, so what would be wrong with creating a Windows 7 or 10 VM on the same host, installing Drive Sync and setting up a network share from the virtualized client?

For the same reason as Google Drive, Windows 7 or 10 isn't designed for file sharing on a large scale. Also I believe there's a limit to the number of concurrent connections, 10 maybe?

I assumed everyone would be doing it if it was that straightforward to set up cloud hybrid infrastructure 😀

We have setup a share on a server and setup Google Drive to sync that folder.

 

Works fine and people use it for photos really. Some use it to save docs but it they want to open in Word they need to export first so a bit fiddly

We tried it. Fell into a pit of pain with missyncs, duplicates and loads of other problems. We only migrated 3 depts to it and quickly back pedalled.

 

Was scary at points and had to restore from local backups at some points
