Hi,

Currently in a 'tidy up' mood on our server shares and came across a lot of hidden Office (Word in particular) temp files with a filename of ~$blah blah blah.docx.

Over 3,000 on one file share!

They are only a few kb's each, but I'm more interested in why they are being left on the shares.

Most of them are in the user home drives, so I'm not thinking permission issues. I've researched other issues too and there is obviously not exiting Word correctly/crashing (with over 3,000 I'm hoping it isn't this), putting the laptop into stanby for extended periods with documents open (I know a lot of staff do this and then go home - so this is probably the likely culprit), opening documents in 'protected mode' and sometimes using 'save as..'

I ran dir /ah /s e:\~*.* in cmd and will remote in tonight when everyone has logged out and delete them (as I know they are created when opening a document and don't want to delete anything that is opened right now).

Anybody else having this issue?
