Willsie2 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Hello fellow IT Professionals, Just wondering if anyone has implemented on have any ideas on a system that monitors to see if a USB Mouse or USB Keyboard has been disconnected from a computer. Ideally, I would like something that is alreays running on the workstation, and when a keyboard or mouse is removed, I get an email to say that something has been unplugged. I have a local SMTP server setup for that kind of thing, just wondering about how to actually detect changes like that. Many thanks in advance, Willsie2
6Foot2 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 (edited) I asked about this a while ago. I got a reply from one of the Edugeek NetSupport guys that spoke about their DNA product. This isn't an option for us at the moment as we have some time left on on our Impero contract but one of the NetSupport guys might be able to fill you in with more detail. @Al_NetSupport, @Matt_NetSupport. Thanks, @DaveP for the mention. Within NetSupport DNA we have a number of USB-based options. (1) Locking down the use of USB storage devices for endpoint security - this prevents kids using USB devices ( memory stick or smartphone storage) on classroom or exam devices and ensuring only teachers can access approved memory sticks on school IT equipment. (2) Our alerting module can trigger an alert if a USB device is added or removed, ( USB Storage, floppy drive, Camera etc) on a PC. You can set how the alert is monitored and what would trigger it back to a network admin. (3) The Hardware History can reflect changes on any hardware component and show them as warnings in the main console. I'll double check with the dev team, but I think DNA 4.50 ( our next update) includes USB HID device alerts as well as USB storage devices alerts. So currently you can see a history of changes fior all USB devices, but instant alerts are for USB the addition and removal of specifically USB storage devices. Edited March 1, 2017 by Al_NetSupport
Willsie2 Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 OK, that's good to know. Thanks for your replies. 1
Al_NetSupport Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 (edited) OK, that's good to know. Thanks for your replies. OK, always like to be doubly sure before saying and committing something, so they teams have checked and provide me with a screenshot. They have confirmed this has already been done by the developers and is indeed in our early 4.50 release build. So happy to confirm it will be available in that update. May be able to share a pre-release build sooner and can discuss offline with anyone. As always 66% of our features are customer driven, just like this and the other 33% are cool features we have are hoping customers will want in the future. Al p.s and yes the other 1% are me needing maths lessons : cool: Edited March 1, 2017 by Al_NetSupport
