Teamviewer Meeting Alternatives

I am hopping this is the correct (ish) area to post this.

 

 

We have been asked by an external agency that are working with our SEN team to install team viewer meeting on our teacher PC, so that visually impared students can get direct access to view what is being projected on the whiteboard to the other students direct to their iPad.

 

My main concerns are:

1. the security risks and ports that are oppened by the Team Viewer application as the meeting client is also the same installation as Team Viewer remote, being secure is important as our teacher PC also access SIMS.

2. The impact on bandwidth of our internet connection

 

All they need to be able to do is stream what is being shown on the board direct to the iPad with as little setup or technicial knowledge required. The iPad only needs view only access.

The teacher PCs run Windows 7 Pro and the iPad runs iOS10. I would also prefer an application that doesn't require an internet connection to work and keeps all data traffic on the internal network only

 

Not sure if there is any such solution but any advice or pointers etc would be welcomed.

Teamviewer can be made to listen to an internal ip rather than internet based but I am not sure if its the ideal solution given I dont know what their licensing requirements and costs would be.

VNC would be the app that pops to mind but I have not used it in a long time to know how things are now with a lot of viewers.

Reflector would probably be more suited to what you want to do.

Do you use Smart boards/software? Their Smart Learning Suite (now the only way to buy Smart Notebook) includes collaborative told that are supposed to allow things like this and sure licensing at a more sensible price was launched at BETT.

 

Alternatively Chromecast for Education might work (you should be able to cast from any device on your network to any others, assuming both have Chrome installed).

Appreciate it will be down to costs, and lots of options, but NetSupport also provide an iOS remote control app that lets IT staff access and remotely manage school systems on the move from their iPhone or iPad ... or can be used in a cut down way to allow students to simply remotely view the Teacher's screen or whiteboard from their tablet.
