jmbmichael Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Has anyone looked into options for EOL chromebooks? We have a lot of the original Samsung 303c's that will be EOL soon but most are working fine. I would hate to have this many devices that we cannot use that really should be usable in some capacity, even if it's just for library search. According to google once they are EOL they will no longer receive updates and I've seen what happens when a chromebook gets a couple of versions out of date. The browser will just sit and reload every few seconds, it's really a pain. So obviously we won't just be able to use them as is with an old OS. One thought I had was to try and load Neverware Cloudready on them but it looks like that would require some work to get it to install. Just wanted to see what others have thought of.
jmbmichael Posted February 23, 2017 Author Posted February 23, 2017 Yeah that's an option but more of a last resort. I'd like something a little more locked down like chromeos, hence Neverware. I really expected them to come out with an option to work with these older chromebooks.
Arthur Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 The browser will just sit and reload every few seconds, it's really a pain. Does that happen even in guest mode or after a powerwash? Do you have a lot of extensions installed? Have you tried enabling swap memory? Personally I would chuck them in the trash considering their age. what about elementary os? Is there an ARM build that would work on an Exynos SoC?
