Infrastructure upgrade

I'm currently looking at possibly replacing some fibre runs and possibly edge switches as they are daisy chained!

 

I suddenly realised that if I de-daisy chain all the affected areas it would mean I wouldn't have enough capacity on my current fibre switch, so this bring me to my questions....

 

Currently my core is made up of a a D-Link DXS3600 fibre switch and a HP 2920-48G. Do I purchase another D-Link DXS3600 and stack the D-Links together or do I replace the core setup altogether with something else such as a modular system?. I'm open to suggestion. I do need at least 4 x 10G fibre connections for my servers

 

My edge switches are currently a mixture of HP 2920-24/48G, Netgear GS724/48T (v1 - v3), so do I stick at 1GB core -> edge or do I replace the Netgear edge switches with something that has a 10Gb uplink and stick a 10Gb module kit in the HP 2920 switches? Some of the switches will be over 5 years old

 

Once the network have been de-daisy chained I am planning to introduce VLANs so I can segregate traffic including BYOD devices.

 

I was planning to cost it as me doing all the work (buy pre-terminated fibres etc) but then again, is it worth the hassle? would it be better to get someone in to do everything?

I'd just get a second fibre switch if you're happy with the first.

 

You might want to look at an X4012 to connect all of your switches to - you can stick another one or a X1026 next to it on the same bracket (they are half-width switches) if you needed some more ports.

(the x4012 is 10gig and under £900 with a rack mounting bracket each)
