TechMonkey Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 But probability of it happening? Against probability of the Unions getting on their high horses, stamping their feet and causing all out revolt as it just wouldn't be fair?
contink Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 The bit about being able to actually get rid of cr*p teachers yes but there's absolutely no sense in the stuff about allowing schools to negotiate their own salaries.. Mind you I suppose there's an arguement for that sort of thing if you're referring to a school with major recruitment problems due to catchment area, behaviour, etc... The whole "London weighting" thing being a case in point but extended to "difficult" schools. As to the bit about sacking poor management... Great idea, but where exactly are they going to get "good" management replacements.. The TES and elsewhere has absolutely tons of SMT positions in it and nobody wants them because the job is no longer about supporting teachers in their role as they educate students, it's about providing the government with statistics.
beeswax Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 So as LA's are going for Single Status for all admin and technical staff, schools want to be able to set teacher's salaries themselves?

I thought that was how it was done in the independent schools? Performance-related pay is a good idea because it gives an incentive and I agree that anybody who does a rubbish job should be warned and then sacked - I would expect no less for myself.

Oh aye, definitely but the problems come on how the performance is measured. Some schools could use it as a tool to cut spending. It's the old issue of it's not the tool but the person who wields it and how.
