Kitkatninja Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Hi All, Just wondering, to any schools/academies in the Northants area... Any chance of letting us come round to take a look at your set-up please? We're trying to get BYOD working - with little success when it comes to different levels of internet filtering (between students, sixth formers and staff). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Ken
Net-Ctrl Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Morning @wagnerk , another avenue you could explore is to engage with your Ruckus partner who should be able to assist. Especially if you have a current support contract in place. If you want Ruckus to be part of this process, i'd have thought you'd need to create 3 VLANS (students, 6th formers and staff) so that they each have 3 IP ranges, and then assuming you have a seperate filtering solution in place, set different filtering policies based on those IP ranges. Alternatively, you could look at doing this at your internet gateway as long as you know who the client is. The above is just an idea, i'm not part of our tech team so there could be a deeper conversation here. If you're not engaged with a Ruckus reseller, and would like some assistance, let me know and I will see if one of our engineers can give you a call to help
Haptic Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 @wagnerk we are based in Kettering - give me a shout on 01536 316873 - we can remote in or come to site if you need us to and can sort it all out for you. Chris
jtotheb Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 If you want Ruckus to be part of this process, i'd have thought you'd need to create 3 VLANS (students, 6th formers and staff) so that they each have 3 IP ranges, and then assuming you have a seperate filtering solution in place, set different filtering policies based on those IP ranges. Alternatively, you could look at doing this at your internet gateway as long as you know who the client is. Either of these should work, dependent on the supporting infrastructure. One drawback of network/VLAN level filtering without something joining it together is a double lookup for issues. Filter reports IP x.x.x.x looking at something inappropriate, which then involves the second step of jumping into Ruckus to see what user has IP x.x.x.x. Not exactly the end of the world, but a minor annoyance.
robk Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 @wagnerk Whats your filtering solution? We have Ruckus installed with a BYOD network. Does user level filtering to our smoothwall box. Derbyshire might be a bit of a trek for you but happy to talk if thats any help.
