Cloud phone system

Anyone using a cloud based system ?

 

We were looking at additonal phone lines but now looking at cloud based system just for the far reaches of school maybe 3 phones but with a option to message teachers of pupil absence or parent lateness etc need to be smarter here at work to many chickens running arround with bits of paper

I have looked at it, but I found it much cheaper to keep it in house.

 

We use FreePBX Distro. Its a linux install with asterisk and freepbx web interface all preinstalled. Its completely free. I think @localzuk also uses asterisk?

There are a number of factors to consider other than price (although our service can be very competitive). The route you take I guess depends on how much knowledge and time you have to manage a system/upgrades etc, how much responsibility you wish to take, as well as what your future plans are - becoming a MAT for instance. Appreciate you are looking for edugeek members to contribute, but if you want info or advice/pricing, I'd be pleased to help.

We looked at it when we replaced our PBX but the costs just didn't add up for us. Within a couple of years we would have broken through how much we would have paid if we kept it on site. The only reason we could see to do it was if we were a multi-site and wanted to simplify trying to link many phone systems or if high availability/Business continuity was a must. I guess if you really didn't want kit on site and didn't want to have any dealings with the system it may work out, taking into consideration staff costs, power and utilities, but it would probably work out just as cost effective to have it on-site and outsource maintenance to a third party.

They have also been used in schools that have poor phone coverage they used a WiFi ip Phone for teachers on support and slt dealing with pupils removed from class
