Hi,

I have taken a backup of a virtual machine using windows server backup both the host machine and the virtual machine are running server 2012 r2 and the virtual machine is running in hyper v. I have then taken a copy of the backup and tried to restore it to a server 2012 r2 hyper v host in our workshop. first of all i tried using the restore function in the windows server backup program, this didnt work as it was saying it couldn't find the backup. i then tried creating a new virtual machine and booting from the vhd file in the backup. the machine boots up fine but there is nothing on it, no active directory no home drives or shares. if anyone has any advice on this that would be great. we are running VMs in a few of our schools and should the physical server go down i would like to be able to just take the backup and restore it to a different server running hyper v and have the school back up and running again.
