Smoothwall new install v's (very) old install - internal websites are extremely slow

Hi all

 

I'm a newbie here

 

I have been running SW for many years on a old IBM x335. It runs fine, but the machine uses loads of power and is only 32 bit so I haven't had any SW upgrades for many years

 

So I purchased one of these mini-itx.com - store - 1U Short Depth 4/8 Intel LAN Network Server Appliance and installed a new copy of SW on it. I have updated to latest Glamis release. I have a Green zone (users - and there's only 2!), and DMZ for the 1 single webserver hardware, serving the 2 websites. The setup is extremely basic, I just have firewall rules for 2 websites, so allow in 80/443/25, and Outbound I allow 80/443/110. NIC 1 connects using PPPoE and is connected directly to the BT cable modem, and we have fibre to the cabinet

 

All seemed well, but I started to get complaints from external users that the site was slow. I ran a test using a free online website tester, and the sites take 60+ seconds to render!! I went back to the old hardware/old version of SW and re-tested, and the site renders in less than 1 second! Normal download speed on my line is 70 meg+ and upload is normally 8 meg

 

In Source NAT & LLB Policies I just have it as Internal Networks -> Internal Networks, any, any, SNAT = No, Pool/Gateway = Automatic, plus SW's own default, which uses "All Available"

 

The websites have few hits, we are not exactly Amazon. It seems either the hardware is slower than the 10+ year old IBM, or SW is much much much slower than before

 

Internal browsing outbound works great, and we have no speed issues there
