DVI / VGA to component

Morning.

 

I have my mac mini hooked up to the TV using a DVI to VGA converter from apple then a VGA cable and this is great but I really need it to go to YPbPr component (the TV does not have hdmi). Been reading around on this on the internet and am just getting very confused.

 

Has anyone done this?

Which lead do I need?

Will I need to buy a signal converter as this article seems to suggest? I can only find suppliers in the USA but this or this may do similar.

I got an email back from keene.co.uk saying if I can set the mac mini dvi output to ypbpr then all I need is a lead with different ends on for about 20 quid. If not then I need a converter. I suspect you can't change the signal so I'm looking at a convertor.

 

The converter only accepts DVI-D which I think is what the mac mini does but would be gratefull of confirmation before I shell out a hundred quid.

I've only ever done it that way via a convertor, never found anything lead-wise to do DVI to component ...yet.

 

If you find different I would be interested.

This is the lead if the signal outputs HD component and this is the converter they suggested.

not sure about going HD15 (analogue VGA) to BNC (compnent video) directly but there appears to be a HD15>BNC cable in the pdf of the keene link in you're first post. My guess is that cannot be used without the converter.

 

Although £140 for converter in the other link is a significant outlay....you'd still need a HD15 to bnc cable for connecting to the tv.

 

Shame you're Telly doesn't have DVI input.

If you are going component > VGA you can get away with a VGA>component cable so long as your display can accept component single over VGA. Going the otherway you are going to need some kind of converter.

 

i've tried reading that several times and it's making no sense to me...his tv has component video connections (3x BNC connectos in all likelihood), he's trying to hook his computer up over vga or dvi to the TV...

 

so that's VGA TO COMPONENT...or HD15 interface to 3x BNC interfaces, so in that case i'm not sure whether you're saying he will or won't need a converter.

Can someone confirm the mac mini does DVI-D before I shell out. I have googled it but am non the wiser TBH.

Ordered a converter with the leads for 60 quid on ebay. The same as the one keene are selling but 1/2 price. Will have to wait for it to come from the states though.

I dont know if i understand what you are looking for but i know that if you

have a best buy or maybe even a staples they tend to keep dvi to vga adapters

in stock. Best Buy also sells them online.

sorry for the post, I understand what you are trying to do now, ATI makes an

adapter that will achieve exactly what you want todo, if the adapter you ordered does not work let me know on the forums and ill hook you up with

a link to ati's dvi to component converter. good luck.

I can get the TV (Sony KE32TS2E plasma screen) to sense the input and even sense resolution changes, but it will not show a picture. The TV can even choose between RGB, DTV and 'other' on the AV5 component input, but still no joy.

 

Any further ideas out there? It seems daft to have to spend £100 on a converter box, when there is so little difference between the Mac VGA output signal and the HD component input.

I was wondering if you have found out a way too get a picture on the TV.

Has anyone found a clear solution yet, how to make this work. Have tried every different way but still cant get a pic.

 

Trying to connect my mac mini to a Component TV .. have Mini-DVI --> VGA/Component cable. No luck..

 

what is wise to do. Hooking it up w/ S-VIDEO is terrible picture:(
