silvestre Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Hi i cannot seem to install DPM 2016 either on the same server which has sql 2012 sp2 installaed or on the remote server which has sql 2014 installed. I have attached the error message.
silvestre Posted November 3, 2016 Author Posted November 3, 2016 downloaded the latest version of sql server management studio and it sorted the issue out. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt238290.aspx
Sagima Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 I've managed it with sql 2014 (i didn't try 2012) on the same server. The tools that came with it worked fine but if it's causing an issue could you not just uninstall the tools, install dpm and then put them back? My problems were with the encryption keys and the service accounts (and not realising that I had to format the array for the backups with ReFS). I was installing from scratch on a 2016 server I had just installed.
bossman Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 @silvestre Been there wore the T-shirt, DPM was a complete waste of my time, threw up too many errors which I spent ages fixing through various microsoft tech sheets and following other user workarounds to no avail, it would work one time then not another for various reasons. Moved to Veeam Essentials and never looked back, what a brilliant product, well worth the initial outlay. Hope you have better luck with DPM than I had
